Experiencing water leaks in your home is a common experience for my clients. It can be anything from a leaky tap, a diffuser that stops working or bursting pipes. This occurrence, although common, is not a simple mishap.
In Feng Shui, everything that happens in our environment is a message that something in its energy is out of alignment. Water leaks have a very specific message for you. But fear not, Feng Shui has the beautiful ability to tell us right away when something is amiss.
The Symbolism of Water Leaks in Feng Shui:
Water is one of the five elements of Feng Shui. It symbolizes flow, movement, and emotions. When there is a leak, this symbolizes an overflow of emotions or emotional turmoil. This often happens when something emotionally draining takes place, such as a breakup or an emotional breakdown. It’s also important to take into consideration where the leak takes place according to the Bagua Map.
For example, my upstairs neighbor once took a bath when she was feeling overwhelmed. She later told me that she kept going over the same memories and feeling herself getting more worked up with each passing minute. By the time she finished the bath, my ceiling started dripping water, thankfully covering only a small portion of my desk. This is a perfect example of our energy affecting our environment as a way of sending us messages. The obvious message here was that she needed to find a healthy way to release and navigate heavy emotions.
Looking even deeper into this, the bathroom in her unit is located in the fame/reputation area of the home, meaning that the overload of emotions had to do with this area of life. She later told me that during her bath, she was obsessing about how other people perceived her. As you can see, our life reflects our environment, and our environment reflects our life. Luckily, we found the leak before it became a bigger problem. We can now move on with this message in mind.
Feng Shui Cures for Water Leaks: Like with everything in the practice of Feng Shui, there is always a solution to energetic problems. No matter how deep-rooted a problem is (e.g., foundation problems), there is a fix.
Attend to Repairs Right Away: It can be tempting to put off those expensive repairs until you feel you can part with your precious dollars. But it's best to do repairs right away because the longer you leave it, the bigger the problem becomes. In the worst-case scenario, this looks like repairs becoming even more expensive. Anything broken in the home creates an energetic blockage. By attending to repairs right away, you are energetically creating space for you to increase critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Open Windows & Doors: As mentioned earlier, flow is a critical part of a functional home. However, sometimes energy within the home can become stagnant, creating energetic blockages such as not welcoming new opportunities, feeling like everything is a dead-end, or feeling like you can’t move on. One of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to fix this is to regularly open windows and doors. There is nothing better than on a beautiful spring day, letting fresh air energize the room. Even if it’s only for 10 minutes a day, no matter the weather, this Feng Shui cure can easily uplift the energy in your home and help the energy flow.
Clear the Entrance of Your Home: The entrance of a home greatly affects the flow of energy in the entire space. A cluttered entryway says to the energy, “No, don’t come in,” but a clear, brightly lit entryway says to the energy, “Please, come on in!”.
Get Rid of Broken Things in the Home: Like with repairs, broken things need to be dealt with right away. If it can be repaired, do so immediately. If not, throw it out. You and your home deserve fully functioning items that improve your quality of life.
Learn Healthy Ways to Release Emotions: Since water leaks symbolize an overflow of emotions, learning how to release and process emotions will surely prevent them from an energetic perspective. This looks like beginning a meditation practice, journaling, exercising in a way you enjoy, or talking about it with a trusted friend.
Water leaks, although they seem completely coincidental, are messages from your home. When listening to them, you can make improvements that not only enhance your life but also elevate your home life. But when you don’t listen to the warning signs, the message will surely get bigger until you do.
